How Does Microfiber Work?
Microfiber strands are extremely porous, creating a soft, absorbent material. They also dry very quickly. There are different ways to produce microfiber. It can be woven or non-woven—typical for disposable cloths. Fibers are split into multiple strands to produce higher-quality fabrics, which makes them more effective at trapping dirt, absorbing liquids and oils, and retaining particles. The way to tell the difference is that non-split fibers feel like soft cloth while split microfibers tend to cling to the skin.
Why Is Microfiber Commonly Used?
Compared to cotton, microfiber lasts longer, absorbs more liquid, and leaves behind no residue. In fact, a microfiber cloth can absorb up to seven times its weight in liquid.1 Microfibers are so fine they can pick up not only dirt and dust but also bacteria, using mechanical rather than chemical processes.
